The legendary Japanese story The Tale of Genji is one of the world’s most significant cultural achievements. Written by Lady Murasaki in the early 11th century as entertainment for Empress Akiko, this thousand-year-old masterpiece holds many literary distinctions, including being considered the world’s first true novel. Over time, the literature inspired "Genji-koh," the most intricate form of the incense appreciation ceremony.
